Attendance
There are no excused tardies or absences except for (1) those sanctioned by the university (e.g., an away game for a sports team, a class field trip, or participation in a music ensemble) and (2) those excused by the dean of students (e.g., for a serious illness or family emergency). Because of the construction on campus this semester, I know that getting to class may be challenging for some. If you anticipate challenges, please discuss them with me.
Tardiness
Tardy is defined as arriving to your assigned seat any time after I have taken attendance for your row. After three tardies, you will be marked absent. The absences will count toward those allowed by the absence policy below.
Absence
If you have more than three unexcused absences, for whatever reason, your final grade in the class will be lowered one level (e.g., if you earned a B-, you will receive a C+); if you have five or six absences, your final grade will be lowered one full letter grade (e.g., if you earned a B-, you will receive a C-). If you have seven or more absences, your grade will be lowered two full letter grades (e.g., if you earn a B-, you will receive a D-).
