Classroom Etiquette
To demonstrate your professionalism and show respect for me and your fellow students, please observe the following policies during class sessions:
- Arrive before the class starts and have any assignments stapled and ready to hand in. Being on time and ready to work is a sign of your professionalism.
- Turn off your cell phone before coming to class. If there is a family emergency that requires you to be available by phone, please let me know in advance and set your cell phone to “vibrate” mode.
- Leave your phones, planners/calendars, and any other distractions in your backpack, pocket, or book bag.
- Use laptop computers or similar devices only to take notes in class. Even if you can multi-task, keep in mind that the people around you might get distracted if you're surfing the Internet or texting your friends.
- Avoid anything else that may prevent you from giving your full attention to the course (i.e. writing notes, holding side-conversations, filling in your planner, reading newspapers, studying for tests, or doing homework for other classes).
Netiquette
I enjoy the opportunity to communicate with you via email. Email gives me the chance to get to know you and gives you the opportunity to practice your writing skills in an informal yet professional setting. Therefore, when you send me an email, please remember to keep your communication positive, constructive, and relevant to the course.
Please also remember to be professional: use standard capitalization and punctuation and appropriate language; and spell check your emails before sending them. At the end of your message, also include (1) your full name and (2) your course name and section (e.g., BCOM 306, 11:00 section)
